Most of our cynicism is actually fear
that if we leap we will fall short.
And we will never achieve greatness
until we recognize that falling short
is not the end of our dream.
In falling, we are giving the option of getting up;
therefore, the real question is "Will we get up?"
I'd say cynicism is boredom and dissatisfaction with the world, but I guess some of it might come from fear
ReplyDeleteI would agree that there is some element of boredom and dissatisfaction involved. I think that cynicism is an easy emotion, because instead of actively trying to change a situation, a person will admit defeat. That defeat, in turn, manifests itself into a stronger feeling of helplessness and acceptance of the status quo, which transforms into cynicism. That's not the whole of it, I'm sure, but is something that I think has some merit.
